Since 2001, the WTI has been providing technical assistance, namely by designing and executing training programs and providing advice to a range of countries which are currently involved in or who have recently completed the difficult process of acceding to the WTO.

The countries whose WTO accessions the WTI has been most intensely involved in include Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Other consulting projects include:

  • Technical assistance project advising a Middle Eastern country on its WTO accession
  • Technical assistance project advising countries in the Balkans on WTO matters
  • Technical assistance project for an emerging State in the Middle East on the elaboration of their external trade regime (in cooperation with the London School of Economics)
  • Technical assistance project for the governmnet of the Peoples Republic of China on tax subsidies scheme (In cooperation with Amsterdam based International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation)
  • Accession of Vietnam to the WTO:  Expert Mission on Intellectual Property
