Politics of International Trade

 

This course explores the relationship between domestic and foreign policy, discussing the conflicts that can arise within and between countries in the pursuit of commercial and other goals. It examines trade policy from a conflict management perspective, before focusing on the ways that foreign policy and trade relate to one another in specific areas. Among the issues covered are discriminatory trade agreements as an instrument of foreign policy, problems of coherence between the WTO and other international organizations, the political issues surrounding trade and development and prospects for structural reform of the WTO.

 

We welcome interested individuals as weekly students in this course. As a weekly student you do not need any knowledge of the field to participate. The price of signing up to this course as a weekly student is CHF 1'250.

Global Political Economy

 

This course provides an introduction into the field of international relations and international political economy. In the first part, the course discusses various theories, analytical frameworks and research programmes with a special emphasis on cooperation and the role of international organizations in economic governance. It the second part, selected research areas are discussed, such as the effects of economic globalization, the role on non-state actors and developing countries.
