Exams and Assessments in MILE
The intensive nature of the MILE Programme will require you to not only regularly attend courses but also have what you learned examined.
Besides grading purposes, the exams and writing assignments in MILE aim to train you in delivering a tangible answer (in English) to an assignment within a limited amount of time. By the end of the MILE Programme you'll have mastered this skill. And, it will be of great benefit to you in your professional life.
Throughout the MILE Programme, the English language support team of the WTI will help you develop your writing skills and monitor your progress.
First Term
In the first term (September to December), you'll be required to write mid- and end-terms. The mid-terms cover the foundational aspects of public international law and global political economy. The end-terms cover micro and macroeconomics as well as the political economy of trade.
The mid and end-terms can take on any number of formats: from in-class, closed or open-book exams (including multiple-choice and/or short-essay questions) to take-home writing assignments.
Second and Third Terms
In the second (January to March) and third (April to June) terms, the courses are assessed on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. With few exceptions (closed or open-book in-class and/multiple choice exams), you'll be required to write your assessments within 24 hours – usually from Thursday after class until Friday evening.
These 24-hour assessments are take-home, open-book writing assignments and you'll be required to submit your assessment online on our course management and learning platform.
Moot Court
The MILE Programme culminates with a challenging yet rewarding moot court – a simulation of a fictitious trade dispute between two countries in front of a panel composed of WTI faculty members.
You'll work in teams and deconstruct an original case from both the complainant and respondent's point of view. You'll be asked to prepare written submissions for both sides and argue each side in front of the panel.
The grades of the MILE Moot Court carry the weight of three one-week modules and consist of an amalgamation of individual scores, group scores and written submission scores.
The two best teams of the MILE Moot Court go on to meet the two best of the IELPO Programme in a friendly competition in the final week of the Programme.
