English Language Requirements

The Master of International Law and Economics (MILE) Programme is taught exclusively in English. You need to arrive at the World Trade Institute (WTI) with a level of English which allows you to fully benefit from the courses.

Your level of English needs to allow you to express yourself effectively in and outside the classroom, deliver on weekly writing assignments and adequately cover a weekly reading load of up to 200 pages.

When evaluating your application, the Selection Committee pays close attention to evidence of your proficiency in English. As is common for graduate programmes, we ask you to submit objective test scores.

English Proficiency Tests

To be eligible for admission to the MILE Programme, you are required to submit evidence of attaining one of the following minimum test scores:

  • TOEFL iBt: 88 points or above
  • TOEFL Paper: 573 points or above
  • IELTS: 7.0 points or above
  • Cambridge CAE: B or higher
  • Cambridge CPE: C or higher
  • MELAB: 85 points or above

If you have not yet passed a test of English proficiency, click on the links on the right and learn more about the different tests.

A high test score does not necessarily reflect your capabilities and does not guarantee success in the MILE Programme but it is one of the factors evaluated in the admissions process. The Selection Committee might deem it necessary to request telephone interviews or additional samples of your academic writing in English.

Exemptions

If you are one of the following applicants, you are exempt from submitting test scores:

  • A native English speaker
  • A student with an undergraduate and/or graduate degree from an institution where English was the primary language of instruction and the degree was awarded no longer than five years ago.
  • A student who has completed at least one year of study in an English speaking country and at an institution where English was the primary language of instruction immediately prior to joining the MILE Programme.

Please contact us if you are unsure of your exemption status and we will be glad to help.

Important: Independent of your exemption status, you are required to fill in the section on English language in the MILE Application Form and submit a two-page essay in English as part of your application.
