Environmental decisions: risks and uncertainties
A better understanding of individual and collective environmental risks and uncertainties is important for decision making related to these issues. This involves studying the assessment, perception, management and governance of risks in an integrative way. Risk is an ancient, historic concept. There are, however, different definitions and notions of risk among these different fields. Moreover, there is not much exchange between the scholars of these four fields, although they are conceptually strongly related. The main goal of the conference is therefore to enable an exchange between scholars involved in the fields of risk governance, management, perception, and assessment, so that the analysis of environmental decisions is accomplished in an interdisciplinary way.
The Risk Governance Pillar organized a two-day workshop under the leadership of Thomas Bernauer. Several participants each presented scientific papers, which then were elaborately discussed by all participants. The main outcomes of this Pillar were presented and discussed in the plenary discussion on the last day.
