Wikileaks – Does it matter? Group debate

Dannie Jost participates in the debate 'Wikileaks – Does it matter?' organised by the London Communicators and Engagement Group and sponsored by EventExtra Limited

Content

From Semaphore to Morse Code to Post to Internet, information has always flowed. Until recently, States, corporations and others could be reasonably sure these flows would remain secure.

With the Wikileaks saga having entered the mainstream media narrative, it is now apparent that even private information is easily acquired and distributed.

When George Orwell wrote the novel '1984', much of it was based on the state bridling information flows to control its people. The likes of Wikileaks and its successors could reverse that. What happens if people can spy on the state? What could this mean to large organisations? Does this change the game for corporate communication professionals?

Event synopsis:

Wikileaks – Does it matter? Group debate

Facilitating the group debate are:

-    Euan Semple, Social Media expert
-    Dr Dannie Jost, Resident philosopher, World Trade Institute

(Dannie will be joining us by video link from Switzerland).

There will be a 15 minute discussion between Euan Semple , Dannie Jost and Matt O’Neill (EventExtra). This will aim to highlight some of the issues involved. The subsequent 45 minutes will be a group debate. We hope the debate will explore what ‘transparency’ means for society, organisations and communication professionals.
