Anyanechi Benjamin Nkemdirim - Nigeria |
|
Prior to attending the MILE program, Benjamin Anyanechi had been a banker for almost a decade dealing with clients in the private/public sectors of the economy and witnessed firsthand the effects of trade related issues (tariffs, smuggling, foreign direct investments, foreign exchange market fluctuations, non-tariff barriers, levels of external reserves, trade deficits/surpluses, the mix of imports, funding via institutions like the US-EXIM Bank and on-lending facilities) on businesses, Public-Private Partnerships (PPA’s), the overall growth/development of a people and the capacity of government at various levels to deliver essential services. His cross-disciplinary background – he graduated in Biochemistry and has an MBA – has enabled the development of a research oriented mindset and bolstered his commitment to deepen knowledge and broaden the range of his skills. He has a deep interest in international affairs, finds research to be fascinating and loves teaching. The ways and means of getting Africa in general and sub-Saharan Africa in particular to further open up their boarders to trade in order to leverage the immense opportunities for growth and development that exists and the strategic role that regional powers like Nigeria and South Africa can play in that regard represents the focus of his current research interests.
