Ms. Symone Betton is a member of the Jamaican Foreign Service and currently serves as Assistant Director of the ACP-EC Section in the Foreign Trade Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Jamaica. As Assistant Director, she contributes to the formulation of policy responses to trade issues between Jamaica and the EC, particlarly within the context of the CARIFORUM-EC Economic Partnership Agreement.  Ms Betton has worked extensively on trade issues including the WTO Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations and has served as First Secretary in the Jamaican Permanent Mission to the UN and the WTO in Geneva.  She has participated in trade negotiations in the WTO including the TRIPS Council.  She has a strong interest in intellectual property and is a member of the Geographical Indications (GI) Working Group in Jamaica.  The Working Group is seeking to put in place an effective GI protection system in Jamaica. Her interests include foreign languages and cooking international cuisines.
