Mr. Romulo Brillo was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and is also an Italian citizen. He pursued a career in Law, starting by obtaining an LL.B. in Law from the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) in 2006. Mr. Brillo is currently a research fellow at the World Trade Institute (WTI), where he is engaged in doctoral research on international investment law as part of WTI’s International Investment Initiative (“I3). His academic background further includes an LL.M. degree awarded by the IELPO programme of the University of Barcelona (2010), a specialization course in International Commerce Law (2008) and a master’s degree in International Law and Economic Integration (in progress), both at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). Mr. Brillo’s professional experience started during his undergraduate studies when he was hired as an intern by a Brazilian major law firm, Pinheiro Neto Advogados, where he stayed for two and a half years. After obtaining his law degree, he worked for three years at two other Brazilian major law firms, Demarest & Almeida Advogados and Leite, Tosto e Barros Advogados, where he became an associate in 2009. His practice focused mainly on regulatory, commercial and corporate issues, dealing largely with foreign investors acting in the infrastructure, energy and natural resources sectors.
