Nikos Lavranos
Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs

As of March, 2010, Mr. Lavranos acts as Senior Policy Advisor in the International Trade Section of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, being in charge of all Dutch investment treaties. Mr. Lavranos’ past experience include, inter alia, the positions of Interim Academic Research Director in European Law and Senior Lecturer at the Hague University, Max Weber fellow at the European University Institute, Florence, and Assistant Professor in EU law and Senior Researcher in International Law at the University of Amsterdam, Law Faculty, and ACIL, and part time Senior Advisor (European and International Strategy) for the Board of the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa), while working on a research project entitled “Competing Jurisdiction between the ECJ and other international courts and tribunals”, sponsored by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). Mr. Lavranos’ academic background further includes a Ph.D. in Law, awarded from Maastricht University in 2004, with a thesis entitled “Decisions of International Organizations in the European and domestic legal orders of selected EU Member States” (published by Europe Law Publishing, Groningen, 2004), an LLM degree in European and Comparative Law (cum laude) from Maastricht University, The Netherlands, and a Law degree (1st State exam) from J.W. Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main in 1997.
