In 2005 Susan Plattner took up her position as Academic Language and Learning Advisor for students on the MILE programme. A teacher with 20 years` experience in the field of academic literacy, she has worked with undergraduate and postgraduate students from both English speaking and non-English speaking backgrounds. Susan works individually with students to identify and adopt strategies to improve academic writing skills and in particular, referencing and citing formalities. She has a degree in Education (Language and Literacy) and a post-graduate Diploma in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). In Australia, Susan taught the features of academic writing to graduate students at NCELTR, (National Centre for English Language Teaching and Research) at Macquarie University, Sydney and also participated in the implementation of the Australian Government’s Migrant Literacy Programme. In Thailand she trained secondary school teachers at Nakhon Pathom Teacher's College, near Bangkok, Thailand and for a short time, worked at a teacher’s college near Rabaul on the island of New Britain, New Guinea. Susan’s main interests include music and travel.
