Maryse Robert is chief of the Office of Trade in the Department of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism at the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS).  She coordinates and manages the work of the OAS on trade-related issues, including capacity-building and technical assistance for the negotiation and implementation of trade agreements. She is the author of numerous studies on trade in services, investment, and regional economic integration. Dr Robert is the co-editor with José M. Salazar-Xirinachs of Toward Free Trade in the Americas/Hacia el libre comercio en las Américas (Brookings Institution Press, 2001) and the author of Negotiating NAFTA: Explaining the Outcome in Culture, Textiles, Autos, and Pharmaceuticals (University of Toronto Press, 2000).  She is an economist with training in international trade law. She holds a PhD from The Fletcher School (Tufts University) and a Master's degree in applied economics from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (Montreal).

 

Dr Robert has taught at several universities. She is currently visiting professor in the Master of Laws in International Economic Law and Policy (LLM IELPO) at the University of Barcelona and adjunct professor on international trade policy at the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus, Barbados). Before joining the OAS, she worked on trade and development at the World Bank and the United Nations, and on telecom issues in the private sector.
