Maria del Carmen Vasquez graduated magna cum laude from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru Law School. Her thesis analysed the scope of the fair and equitable treatment standard within the investment chapter of the Peru-United States Free Trade Agreement. As an undergraduate, she was an exchange student at the School of International Studies of Peking University and a teaching assistant in Public International Law at PUCP Law School.

Maria has work experience in regulation, dispute resolution, finance and investments in both the private and public sectors. She worked for the Banking, Finance and Capital Market practice of Muñiz, Ramirez, Perez-Taiman & Olaya Law Firm (Peru) advising foreign companies in capital markets transactions and regulations. Earlier, she worked for Dispute Resolution Body of the Telecommunication Regulatory Agency of Peru (OSIPTEL), where she specialized in competition and antitrust cases and also participated in the negotiations of the telecommunication and competition chapters of the Peru-Japan FTA. Furthermore, she was on the research team of the Dispute Resolution Tribunal of the Water and Sanitation Regulatory Agency of Peru (SUNASS).

Maria Vasquez has published articles on international economic law in leading law reviews in Peru, and was also Chief Editor of the Law and Society Review publishing special issues in Competition Law and Regulation.

Maria's primary interests lie in investment law and trade in services, particularly in telecommunications and financial services. She also enjoys jogging and travel.
