MILE 13

Susana Wong Chan graduated from the University of Costa Rica with a Bachelor´s degree in Customs Administration and Foreign Trade. A student, she became part of the Customs Administration and Foreign Trade Students Association, served as a professor’s assistant for different courses of the career, and became the assistant of the career coordinator. Before she graduated, she started to work at the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (COMEX) as an advisor and trade negotiator of Free Trade Agreements in the area or Rules of Origins, Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation. In COMEX, she was also responsible for the adequacy of the Central American Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System to the Fifth Amendment; this document is necessary in order to provide the correct tariff classification of goods. After working for almost two years in COMEX, she started to work at a consulting group in which she was in charge of a project related to technical barriers to trade. That project had the objective to reduce these barriers in order to promote Trade Facilitation.  Susana was then granted a full scholarship from the University of Costa Rica in order to pursue graduate school.  Susana speaks Spanish, English, French and Chinese. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her friends, reading, drawing and cooking.
