Maxim Gubarev holds an LL.M. degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law. Previously, he graduated with honours from Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University with a specialist degree in Russian law. While in law school, Maxim participated in Jessup Moot Court Competitions, National Rounds in 2007, 2008 and 2010 and served as a legal consultant for the Center of Legal Aid for the Public. He is licensed to practise law in Russia and participated in his first trial in June of 2010.

In 2010-2011, Maxim was a Graduate Assistant for the National Agricultural Center, USA, conducting research in many topics of U.S. agricultural and food law, as well as legal issues associated with traditional knowledge, global warming, sustainable development and international trade in agricultural commodities. His work “Misappropriation and Patenting of Traditional Ethnobotanical knowledge and Genetic Resources” was published in the 2012 Spring edition of the Journal of Food Law & Policy, University of Arkansas School of Law. In 2011 Maxim joined DLA Piper, Saint Petersburg office, regulatory and foreign trade practice. As an associate he primarily dealt with trade related investment agreements in automotive sector (“industrial assembly” agreements), automotive recycling duties, technical regulations in automotive, tobacco and light industry sectors, as well as various customs issues and tariff modification procedures.
