Nelisile Thanjekwayo holds an LL. B degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently in the process of obtaining her master’s in business and commercial law at the same university. Upon completion of her LL. B degree, Nelisile worked as a research and training associate for the University of the Witwatersrand where she got involved in lecturing, research and writing. In 2011, she obtained a scholarship from Norton Rose Fulbright, an international law firm that is currently ranked third globally, to complete her undergraduate studies as well as the master’s programme at the University of Witwatersrand. Nelisile was part of the sub-committee of the Law School Council in 2011, where she served under the Secretary-General portfolio. In addition, she was one of the executive members of the Black Lawyers Association Council at the University of Witwatersrand. She worked as a legal writing centre consultant for the University of Witwatersrand, where she got involved in a number of writing workshops and assisted a number of students in their own writing. Nelisile speaks, reads and writes five of South Africa’s eleven official languages, and has basic knowledge of an additional two. She has taken part in vac work programmes, in a number of law firms, in South Africa. These include Norton Rose Fulbright, Shepstone and Wylie, as well as Bowman Gilfillan. Nelisile obtained a Scholarship from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs to attend MILE and hopes to learn and develop an in-depth knowledge of issues of trade, especially concerning Africa and developing countries. In her professional future, she aims to contribute to the pursuit to better South Africa’s current trade industry.
