Vilane completed her degree in Economics from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco in Brazil (2012). She has an MPhil in Administration and Rural Development from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (2015). Vilane achieved her PhD in Economics from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom (2019) by writing three essays on the economics and effectiveness of the environmental policies implemented in Brazil with the aim of taking into account possible barriers that contribute to the net forest loss. She has experience in Environmental Economics and is developing skills in Environmental Sciences, acting on the following subjects: evaluation and analysis of environmental policies, econometric applications to environmental studies. Her interests also include big data analysis and remote sensing analysis. She is currently working on the project “Estimating the Economic Impact of flash floods and landslides from Remote Sensing Data”.
