Elias Bieri joined the WTI in January 2021 as an assistant researcher under SNSF Professor Elisa Fornalé. With special methodological interests in assessing law in context, legal mapping and comparative legal studies, he is supporting the research project “CLI_M_CO2”. The aim of the project is to frame environmental migration as a common concern.
The major research objects of Elias are the Global Compact for Migration, as an embodiment of international cooperation, as well as the Universal Periodic Review, for which he is working on designing and creating an intelligible database.
Elias holds a bachelor's degree in law and is currently studying at the University of Bern, finalizing his master’s degree with a personal focus on inter- and transdisciplinary research and sustainable/regenerative development. Having attended the "Kaospilots" school, he also has a background in process, project and business design. Previous to his work at the WTI, he was employed by the Swiss Association for Spacial Planning - Espace Suisse as a legal intern. In the CDE – Center for Development and Environment he worked in the Soilcare Project, assisting PD Dr. Abdallah Alaoui.
Besides his research activities and his studies, Elias plays in an experimental rock band called "Film 2".
