Abstract (in English)

The whole process of institutionalization imposed in response to COVID-19 has involved only a small proportion of women currently occupying positions in international and domestic institutions, such as “technoscientific” ones, created by Member States to face the pandemic. Our analysis’s major aim is to conduct an investigation of the creation of these institutional mechanisms in Italy to understand how they interfere with the exercise of “participatory rights” guaranteed by the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. We will use this emergency-led development as a “reality check” to explore the normative implications of the concept of ‘representation’ at institutional level. This will allow us to understand how intervening both formally and informally to influence the mechanisms that hinder women’s access to political participation.
