Asia-Pacific Regional Round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition held for the first time in Jakarta
The WTI awards prizes for the best written submissions in all the ELSA Regional Rounds. The 10th ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC2) on WTO Law holds Regional Rounds in Europe, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region.
From 2 to 6 March 2012, the Asia-Pacific Regional Round of the ELSA Moot Court (EMC2) took place for the first time in the Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) in Jakarta. The 10th ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC2) on WTO Law holds Regional Rounds in Europe, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region. The best teams from all the Regional Rounds will compete against each other in the Final Oral Round, which will this year take place in Toulouse, France from 5 to 13 May 2012.
In the Asia-Pacific Regional Round, 11 teams from India, Indonesia, New Zealand, the People’s Republic of China, the Philippines, Taiwan (Republic of China) and Vietnam competed. The winning team from Jindal Global Law School and the teams from National Taiwan University and Ateneo de Manila Law School, which achieved second and third place, will participate in the Final Oral Round in May 2012.
The WTI awarded prizes for the best written submissions (best respondent written submission, best complainant written submission, best overall written submissions). The prize for the best submissions is participation in one Summer Academy or one MILE weekly course.
As part of the 10th anniversary of the ELSA Moot Court, UPH and ELSA jointly organised an academic conference on Monday, 5 March on trade and the economy. The conference featured two sessions: trade and development and trade and current issues. Speakers, who also served as the panellists for the competition, included Prof. Mitsuo Matsushita (Japan), Prof. Mary Elizabeth Hiscock (Australia), Prof. Shin-Yi Peng (Taiwan), Prof. Yanning Yu (China), Ambassador Manickam Supperamaniam (Malaysia), Roy Santana (WTO), the former MILE student Christian Vidal Leon (WTO), and James Lockett (ASEAN).
