For the WTI-CWS Joint Academy on International Trade Law and Policy, the Embassy of Switzerland in India hosted a trade talk and reception for the Joint Academy students, faculty members, WTI alumni and other trade community members. We are very happy to announce that the event marks the launch of the India Regional Chapter of the WTI Alumni Association.

The trade talk was inaugurated by Ambassador Dr. Ralf Heckner with welcome remarks. Professor Peter Van den Bossche, Director of Studies of the WTI, then gave a speech on ‘The Crisis of the Multilateral Trading System: Causes and Responses?’. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Pritam Banerjee, Professor and Head of the Centre for WTO Studies of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, on ‘Global Architecture for Trade: What Options for the Global South?’. Mr. Jean-Baptiste Délèze, Head Economy, Trade and Finance, Embassy of Switzerland moderated the lively discussion.

Mr Harsh Hiroo Gursahani, Partner, PLR Chambers and Secretary of the WTI Alumni Association, then launched the India Chapter of the WTI Alumni Association jointly with 16 Indian WTI alumni. India comprises of around 10% of the WTI’s overall alumni body of more than 600 alumni from over 100 countries. Students, faculty, alumni and members of the trade circles in India enjoyed the networking dinner. The WTI and CWS highly appreciate the longstanding support by the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi, it simply wouldn’t be possible wtihout them.
