New MoU with the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA)

On Monday 24 July, the WTI and SIECA signed a general cooperation MoU on capacity-building, joint publications, and specifically supporting SIECA's new moot court on inter-state arbitration in trade matters.

The World Trade Institute has concluded an important Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA). SIECA is the technical and administrative body of the Central American Economic Integration Process, with legal personality under international law. It is responsible for liaising with the actions of the other Secretariats of the Economic Subsystem and coordinating with the General Secretariat of SIECA, in the exercise of functional autonomy. SIECA oversees at the regional level the correct application of the Protocol to the General Treaty on Central American Economic Integration - Protocol of Guatemala - and other legal instruments of regional economic integration and the execution of the decisions of the organs of the Economic Subsystem.

The MoU covers areas of cooperation on capacity-building, joint publications and information sharing, but also a specific agreement supporting SIECA's new moot court on inter-state arbitration in trade matters.
