New MILE intake welcomed to Bern
The new Master of International Law and Economics (MILE) programme is underway, with 28 students enrolled from 20 different countries. Classes began on the morning of 15 September with a two-day History of International Trade Regulation given by Professor Thomas Cottier.
An Introduction to International Economic Law by University of Basel Professor Krista Nadakavukaren Schefer will begin on 17 September, followed by Academic English with Melanie Mettler.
The foundational term continues into the second week with lectures on Law and Development.
“We warmly welcome the new MILE 15 class to Bern and the WTI as they prepare to embark on the world’s leading programme of advanced studies in the law and economics of trade regulation,” commented programme director Jin Glover.
“We congratulate the students on their selection to this demanding programme and in overcoming tough odds in making the cut. I speak on behalf of the entire WTI team in saying how much we look forward to meeting each student personally in the coming weeks."
On the first day students also had the opportunity to witness a traditional Bernese event - Sichlete auf dem Bundesplatz – as farmers paraded their cows through the city in a noisy, joyous festival marking the end of summer grazing on the Alps. The event was accompanied by speeches and the crowning of Ms Sichlete, the best cow in the procession.
