WTI takes part in trade and environment workshop

WTI senior researcher Ilaria Espa presented at a workshop on ‘Trade and Environment: Positive Integration in the EU and the WTO’ at Ruhr Universität Bochum, Germany, on 9-10 May.

The workshop aimed at reflecting upon the relationship between trade and environment in the EU and the WTO. While the comparison of those two regimes and their approaches has traditionally focused on negative integration, the workshop aimed at offering a broader perspective on the trade and environment debate by looking at the positive integration dimension in both the EU and the WTO legal systems.

Dr Espa took part in the panel devoted to ‘Positive and Negative Integration in Renewable Energy’ together with Dr Gracia Marin-Duran (University of Edinburgh), Prof. Stefan Magen (Ruhr Universität Bochum) and Prof. Maria Weimar (University of Amsterdam), and gave a presentation on ‘The WTO’s regulatory approach to renewable energy subsidies: Negative integration and the challenges ahead’
