Gulmira Kuzhagaliyeva was born in Kazakhstan. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia. She later took the Master's World Economy and International Affairs program at The Higher School of Economic (HSE), Moscow, Russia, where she participated in scientific research seminars titled 'Regulation of Foreign Economic Relations'. Gulmira's Master's thesis was written on the topic: 'The WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism: the interests of agricultural producers'.
She also received a Certificate of Appreciation for participation in seminars on International Political Economy and Lectures on International Development Assistance conducted by Stanford University. Gulmira's main area of interest lies in regulation of foreign economic relations concerning Kazakhstan/Russia/CIS foreign policy. More specifically, she is interested in studying how international trade of goods and services may benefit a country's economy. She wants to investigate methods to protect the interests of developing countries in trade. Gulmira is fluent in Kazakh, Russian and English.
