Modesta Nsowaa-Adu is a lawyer  and a Gender mainstreaming, Diversity and Inclusion Consultant with the World Trade Institute’s Gender Research Team in Bern, Switzerland. As part of her role, she develops strategies for mainstreaming gender in international trade law and policy, conducts gender assessments, policy briefs, research on emerging areas on gender and inclusivity, and the provision of technical support for women’s economic empowerment in developing countries.

Her professional and research interests are in the areas of Trade in services and the intersection of global trade and sustainable development. In particular, she is passionate about how trade law and policy impact gender, labor, and the environment. 

Modesta holds a joint LLM in International Trade and Investment law and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in International Law and Economics from the World Trade Institute, University of Bern, Bachelor’s in both Political Science (BA) and Law (LLB) from the University of Ghana, Legon and a qualifying certificate from the Ghana School of Law.
