Prof. Dr. Philipp Zurkinden

Admitted to the Bar in Berne and Zurich. He earned a PhD at the University of Basel, as well as an LLM.Eur degree at the European Institute of the Saarland University.
Mr Zurkinden is a titular professor for Swiss competition law at the University of Basel and regularly invited to teach EU competition and state aid law at the University of Bern. He is very well connected in the Swiss Government and Parliament and regularly heard as an expert in connection with competition legislation and politics- He is in particular involved when it comes to the drafting of competition law related legislation or amendments (Swiss cartels act, foreign investment protection, state aid law etc.) and also in relation with issues concerning the relationship CH-EU (bilateral agreements between Switzerland and the EU, Foreign Subsidies Regulation, state aids etc.).
He is a past president of the European Lawyers Association, chairman of the practice group competition law within the Bernese Bar Association, vice chairman of the competition group within the Swiss Bar Association, a member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht and the IBA competition groups. Philipp is also a founding trustee of the Emirati-Swiss Friendship Forum (ESFF).
Philipp Zurkinden is a partner and head of the competition department the law firm Prager Dreifuss Ltd in Bern, Zurich and Brussels. He advises local and international clients in various sectors and regularly collaborates with international law firms in multi-jurisdictional cartel proceedings and merger filings.
Mr Zurkinden is the author of numerous publications. He speaks fluent German, French, English, Italian and Spanish.
