Trade, Meat, and the Environment
A Brown Bag Seminar by Dora Simon, PhD Candidate at the University of Zurich Department of Economics.
Dora Simon will present about her paper which analyses the environmental effects of trade policy. A BLP model of consumer demand is estimated using supermarket data which is then combined with data on emissions related to meat production and transport. Counterfactual exercises show the effect of a decrease in meat tariffs in Switzerland on the environment. The analysis provides a scientific view on the "buy local" debate.
