Ms. Brigitta Imeli defends her PhD thesis "Private sustainability standards and the WTO: A Case Study from Switzerland"
PhD supervised by Prof. Peter Van den Bossche and Dr. Ilaria Espa.
In her thesis, Brigitta investigates the potential role of the WTO in regulating trade-restrictive private sustainability standards. She undertakes original research on the applicability of the relevant WTO rules under the GATT and the TBT Agreement, relying on a comprehensive case study on Switzerland-based private sustainability standards. Her dissertation sheds light on the legal implications of government participation in non-governmental standard-setting and is a welcome contribution to the ongoing debate in academia and among WTO Members.
