Internet Governance and Freedom of Expression

A presentation at the conference 'ICT, Law, and Innovation: Recent Developments, Challenges, and Lessons Learned', organized by the Bilgi University and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society; 23 May 2013 - 24 May 2013, Istanbul

The session will focus on pressing Internet governance issues, including controversial freedom of speech and related human rights issues, from a regional perspective. In this discussion, we will seek to identify areas of convergence as well as disagreement, both nationally and internationally, and discuss the short- and anticipated long-term impact of different approaches on innovation and entrepreneurship.
The symposium is a region-specific event in collaboration with the recently launched global Network of Internet and Society Centers (NoC). The NoC is a collaborative initiative among academic institutions with focus on interdisciplinary research on the development, social impact, policy implications, and legal issues concerning the Internet. It aims to increase interoperability between participating centers in order to collectively confront transnational issues on a global level
