Working closer together with the Bangladeshi Foreign Trade Institute

On Tuesday, 26 June 2023, the WTI had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of the Bangladeshi Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI), headed by Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, CEO of BFTI.

The BFTI is a non-profit research and training institution, founded in 2003 as a public-private partnership between the Ministry of Commerce of Bangladesh and the private sector.

The BFTI has three major mandates:

  • providing policy support to the government and private sector trade bodies and associations on existing and emerging trade-related issues;
  • building trade-related capacity for government agencies through training and research; and
  • creating a policy forum for consultations between policy and business leaders.

Dr. Uddin and Prof. Van den Bossche, the WTI Director of Studies, explored the possibilities for the WTI to contribute to the BFTI’s efforts to carry out its mandates. It is expected that an MoU on closer cooperation between the BFTI and WTI will be concluded shortly.
