Energy reForum conference attracts high-level participants

The Energy reForum 16 conference that took place on 2-3 June in Vilnius, with support from the WTI, brought together some 200 participants from the private sector, government and academia, including from the WTI and NCCR Trade Regulation research project.

Among them was the Lithuanian minister of energy, Rokas Masiulis, and a former MILE student Nikolay Mizulin, who is now partner at Mayer Brown, Brussels, and an acting lawyer in the EU-Russia energy dispute.

From the WTI, there were presentations by Thomas Cottier, Ilaria Espa, Simona Weber, Tetyana Payosova and Tilman Dralle (former visiting research fellow from TU Dresden).  

Thomas Cottier gave the keynote speech on the prospects of a WTO energy agreement. He later presented on the global grid – launching the NCCR Trade Regulation´s Global Series. Sixteen further events in the Global Series will follow over the next one and a half years. Thomas Cottier was quoted on the first day of the conference by the LNG news website. See link.

A presentation on ‘Subsidies, Clean Energy and Climate Change’ was delivered by Ilaria Espa, a senior researcher at the WTI.

Tetyana Payosova, who works on the Trade and Climate Change work package of the NCCR, presented on ‘Promotion of Second-Generation Biofuels: Recent Developments and Compatibility with the WTO rules’. Both presentations were part of the last panel organised by the NCCR.

The event was organised by WTI doctoral student Karolis Gudas. His PhD subject is transit rights, with a particular focus on energy from renewable sources.
