Inauguration of the 8th WTI-CWS Joint Academy on International Trade Law and Policy

Yesterday, June 6, 2022 the World Trade Institute and the Centre for WTO Studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, launched their 8th Joint Academy on International Trade Law and Policy.

Since 2014 the World Trade Institute and the Centre for WTO Studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade are organising a four-week Joint Academy on International Trade Law and Policy for Indian law students and practitioners.

This year’s Academy is held online and was inaugurated on 6 June 2022. Prof. Abhijit Das, Head, Centre for WTO Studies gave a welcome address to the 25 participants. This was followed by opening remarks by the WTI’s Director of Studies Prof. Van den Bossche. Afterwards the participants, most of them are students from different law colleges from all over India, introduced themselves. Dr Jayant Dasgupta, former Ambassador of India to the WTO, gave the keynote address. 

The Joint Academy is taught by WTI faculty members and faculty members of various Indian institutions. The courses offered are: Essentials of WTO Law and Policy, Investment Law, Trade and IPR, Trade in Services, SPS and TBT, Agreement on Agriculture, The Law and Policy of Trade Remedies, Foreign Subsidies, Trade and Sustainability, Trade and Gender, Trade and MSMEs, Electronic Commerce.

The World Trade Institute is proud that two MILE alumnae, Shishira Johny and Urvy Tembey, are working for the Centre for WTO Studies and are in charge of the Joint Academy.
